My husband, Gary Lee Parks, has written a book, Theatres of San Jose. It is available on the Internet and was released on June 22 of 2009. Arcadia Publishing lists it here. It traces the history of movie theatres in San Jose and the surrounding cities from the nickelodeons of the silent movie era, through the golden age of movie palaces, to the domes and drive-ins of the 60s.

Gary is the Western Regional Director of the Theatre Historical Society of America. He has participated in campaigns to save and restore a number of historic movie palaces, including the California Theatre in San Jose, the Golden State Theatre in Monterey, and the Varsity Theatre in Palo Alto (now Borders Books, but with much of its historic architecture intact).

Gary is collaborating with Jack Tillmany, author of Theatres of San Francisco and Theatres of Oakland, on another book, Theatres of the San Francisco Peninsula. Stay tuned!
